Guide

What happens during an asbestos survey?

A survey is calm and quick. Here is what the surveyor does and what you get at the end.

Two operatives stripping old pipe lagging inside a sealed enclosure with an air extraction unit

Before the visit

You confirm access and the scope. The surveyor reviews any plans or earlier reports.

The inspection

The surveyor inspects accessible areas and notes suspect materials, their condition and location.

Sampling

Small samples are taken with minimum disturbance. The area is protected, and damage is made good.

Laboratory

Samples go to a UKAS-accredited laboratory for analysis.

The report

A written report with locations, materials, condition and next steps, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
