Asbestos in Liverpool's docklands, terraces and estates

Liverpool and Merseyside have a huge stock of pre-2000 buildings. Asbestos turns up in dockland warehouses, Victorian terraces, post-war estates, schools and industrial units.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

Look for asbestos in garage and outhouse roofs, lagging on old boiler pipework, floor tiles and textured ceilings added in later decades.

Dockland warehouses and mills

Large roofs, ducting, pipe lagging and insulation board are common. Refurbishment needs a survey first.

Post-war estates and garage blocks

Concrete sectional garages with cement roofs are very common around Liverpool, Bootle and Knowsley.

Schools and public buildings

Duty holders keep registers. Works are timed for holidays.
